Designing and manufacturing personal protective equipment for frontline workers.

North Kansas City, MO (April 14, 2020) — InStore Design Display (IDD) has pivoted its design and manufacturing of custom retail displays to protective face shields and other personal protective equipment (PPE), which can help safeguard first responders and frontline healthcare professionals fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as essential employees who must interact with customers. By refocusing the business in this time of crisis, IDD has been able to preserve jobs for 35 full-time and 10 temporary employees.

"We've taken our expertise in cutting and molding plastic to design and manufacture personal protective equipment for medical professionals, law enforcement, and essential employees like those in grocery stores and banks," said Randy Edge, CEO, InStore Design Display. "My team wanted to help the people on the frontlines of the COVID-19 crisis with what we do best."

For essential businesses, IDD has developed a personal protection barrier for use where employees interact with customers (e.g., banks, convenience stores, grocery). To serve frontline healthcare workers, the IDD team is preparing to manufacture an Intubation Box to protect medical professionals as they intubate patients, a medical procedure used to help those with severe COVID-19 infections breathe. In late March 2020, IDD designed and began manufacturing face shields for hospitals, law enforcement organizations, and grocers as fast as the raw material could be sourced. IDD partnered with Dimensional Innovations, The Center for Design Research at the University of Kansas, and the University of Kansas Health System to design and donate its intellectual property for an OPEN SOURCE face shield to help combat the global shortage of PPEs for medical professionals fighting COVID-19.
